Oklahoma | U.S. Drought Monitor | October 22, 20226
Oklahoma summary from the National Drought Summary for October 20, 2026 / South
Between October 13 and October 15, a powerful storm system delivered heavy to excessive rainfall across much of Oklahoma. Western and central parts of the state saw widespread precipitation, with localized rainfall amounts reaching 6 to 8 inches west of Oklahoma City, while Oklahoma City itself recorded 4.99 inches by late afternoon on October 14. These substantial downpours provided significant relief following an extended period of hot, dry conditions during August and September, leading to localized rainfall departures that exceeded 6 inches above normal.
The heavy rain helped boost soil moisture and streamflows across the region, supporting a widespread one-category drought improvement across much of the state and reducing areas under exceptional drought (D4). However, because long-term moisture deficits had accumulated prior to the storm, complete drought removal remains limited.
