NBA SEASON OPENS
TODAY
The NBA Season opened yesterday with three games starting in
Detroit yesterday afternoon. The Boston Celtics started fast against the
Pistons leading 58-45 at halftime, but Detroit flipped the script in the second
half. The Pistons outscored the Celts 76-55 in the second half to come back and
win game 1 121-113. Paul George played his first game in Celtics green and was
fantastic with 38. Detroit got 22 from Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren had 22
apiece for Detroit and Duncan Robinson fired in 21.
Game 2 of the night was ring night inside Madison Square Garden
between the defending champion Knicks and the new look Philadelphia 76ers who
added both LeBron James and Jalen Brown. The Knicks led 58-54 at halftime but
the Sixers eventually wore the champs down to win 106-100. Philly had 6 guys in
double figures led by Tyrese Maxey’s 28. Jalen Brunson led New York with 21 but
it took him 19 shots to get there.
The nightcap was a rematch of last season’s Western Conf
Finals between the Ok City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs. DeArron Fox threw
down Chet Holmgren in the beginning of the second quarter causing a scuffle that
led to what has to be the first triple Williams technical fouls with J Dub, J
Will, and Kenrich Williams coming to Chet’s defense and getting t’d up. That
lit a fire under the Thunder who reeled of 9 straight and eventually outscored
the Spurs 22-5 and led by as many as 26 before half. San Antonio tried to make
it a game but the Thunder always had an answer in a 116-104 season opening win.
SGA was fantastic with 32. Jared McCain made a career high 6 threes en route to
20. The Thunder defense stifled Victor Wembenyama who only scored 12 on a 1-13
shooting night. Stephon Castle led San Antonio with 24 in a losing effort. OKC
gets tonight off before Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets come to town tomorrow
night.
