NOTRE DAME HOLDS OFF PENN ST; OHIO ST VS TEXAS TONIGHT

The first of two national semifinals was played last night down in Miami at the Orange Bowl. Notre Dame and Penn St played an absolute classic for the first of two spots in the National Title game. It was tied 10 apiece headed to the 4th quarter when a defensive struggle turned into an offensive explosion. Notre Dame scored a TD to take a 17-10 lead. Penn St answered with 14 straight to lead 24-17. Then the Irish finished with the final 10 including a 40 yard FG with 10 seconds left to win 27-24 and advance to the National title game a week from Monday. It’s the first time Notre Dame will play for a Natty since 2012 season. They haven’t won one since 1988.

Their opponent will be decided tonight down in Arlington inside Jerry World. Ohio St, who’s become an offensive juggernaut since a brutal loss to Michigan to end the regular season, will take on Texas in the Cotton Bowl Classic. Texas squeaked by Arizona St a week ago in double OT. Winner will play Notre Dame in Atlanta on Monday Jan 20th for the first championship in the 12 team playoff era.

THUNDER/KNICKS TONIGHT

The Ok City Thunder will invade Madison Square Garden tonight to face the New York Knicks. OKC got the better of New York last week 117-107, but they’re coming off a loss on Wednesday to Cleveland that snapped a 15 game winning streak. The Thunder are 30-6, first in the west while the Knicks come in 25-13 in 3rd in the East. You can hear Thunder/Knicks tonight on 98.1 fm and 1240 am. Pregame starts at 5 ahead of the 6:30 tip

CUMMINS MAKES PGA TOUR DEBUT

Wford’s Quade Cummins teed off his 2025 PGA Tour season in Hawaii at Wailelea country club in the Sony Open yesterday. Quade struggled to a 3 over par 73. He’s about to tee off in his second round. The current cut sits at 2 under so it looks like Cummins will need to shoot a minimum round of 5 under 66 in order to play this weekend.
