HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS 

Paragontv was on hand last Friday night for handful of big time high school basketball matchups across Western Ok. It was a battle of top ten girls teams out at Merritt with Canute in town. The Oilerettes handed the Trojanettes their first loss 46-38. AB hammered BFDC 60-31. C-R handled Sayre easily 62-21. Leedey wallopped Buffalo 63-9. On the boys side of things, AB topped BFDC 58-26, C-R edged Sayre 53-46, Canute beat Merritt 49-36, and Leedey smoked Buffalo 58-22.  

HIGH SCHOOL RANKINGS 

The first 4A and 3A basketball rankings were released this afternoon. On the girls side in 4A, the Western Conf is well represented. Bethany is 5th, Kingfisher 6, Tuttle 8, Newcastle 10, Wford 15. The Elk City Elkettes didn’t appear in the first rankings. Wford tops the 4A boys poll. The Eagles, two time defending runners-up, received 36 of the 52 possible first place votes.  

2A-A-B is in their second week of rankings. 2A girls has Merritt dropping to 7. In Class A Canute’s still 6th, C-R stays at 10. Hammon’s just behind Lomega in Class B. The Lady Warriors are still #2 but have narrowed the gap immensely from week 1. Lomega got 47 first place votes. Hammon 41 first place votes. L-S is #3. Arnett’s 6th. Leedey’s 12th, MVG 14. The boys rankings have Merritt at 15 in 2A. In Class A Binger-Oney is 7, H-E 18th. In Class B Granite’s 4th, Hammon 6, Duke 8th, Leedey checks in at 12, Vici 17, Sentinel is 19. 

COLLEGE FOOTBALL CONF CHAMP WEEKEND 

Conference Championship weekend came and went over the weekend, ending the regular season on the college football gridiron. Friday night Boise St stamped their ticket into the playoff with a 21-7 Mtn West win over UNLV. Saturday started with AZ St whipping Iowa St for the Big 12 title 45-19. Georgia’s the SEC champ after a 22-19 OT win against Texas. Clemson won the ACC 34-31 over SMU. Oregon held off Penn St 45-37 for the Big 10 crown.  

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF BRACKET 

Those results led to yesterday’s announcement of the inaugural 12 team playoff bracket. The 4 byes are Oregon the top seed. Georgia’s 2nd. Boise 3rd. AZ State’s 4th. The first round games will all be played on the campus of the higher seeded team. On Friday Dec 20th, 7th seeded Notre Dame hosts 10th seed Indiana. It's a triple header on Saturday the 21st. 6th seed Penn St hosts 11 seed SMU. The 5 seed is Texas. They’ll host Clemson. Ohio St is the 8 seed. They drew 9th seeded Tennessee.
