Weatherford, OK — A Chickasha man is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Weatherford on the night of May 5.
Clifford Gene Davis, 58, is charged with Endangering Others While Eluding/Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, a felony, and Transporting an Open Container of Intoxicating Beverage, a misdemeanor.
According to an affidavit the pursuit began around 9:37 PM on May 5 when Davis was seen speeding in a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis on Highway 54. The officer attempted a traffic stop after observing Davis run a red light, but Davis allegedly fled, accelerating to speeds over 100 miles per hour.
During the chase, Davis reportedly swerved into oncoming lanes and nearly hit other drivers before crashing into a field near Custer Street. He then fled on foot. Officers from multiple agencies, including the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office and Oklahoma Highway Patrol, responded with K9 units and located Davis hours later hiding in an abandoned camper trailer.
Inside the vehicle, officers found an open bottle of liquor in the back seat and a recent receipt from a local grocery store, timestamped just minutes before the incident. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Davis purchasing alcohol shortly before the pursuit began.
Bond has been set at $150,000.
