Elk City, OK – Elk City residents will come together this Memorial Day weekend to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country with two community events open to the public.
Saturday Morning: Honor the Fallen Memorial Run
Hosted by One Church, the Honor the Fallen Memorial Run kicks off Saturday morning and will begin at One Church, winding its way through town and concluding at North Ackley Park. Elk City Police, Fire Department, and the American Legion are partnering to support the event. A brief memorial ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the park to honor the fallen. All are encouraged to attend and pay their respects.
Monday Morning: Memorial Day Tribute Service
On Memorial Day itself, the Memorial Day Tribute Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial in Fairlawn Cemetery, located on North Washington. The tribute will include the lowering of the flag to half-mast, placement of the Gold Star Wreath, patriotic music, and a keynote address by Percy Dale Walker, former Oklahoma House Representative. This ceremony is a chance for the entire community to reflect, remember, and honor the ultimate sacrifice of our fallen heroes.
Everyone is invited to both events.
