The Penny News 319

An Indiana man was recently arrested in Beckham County following a high-speed pursuit.

According to Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning, 21-year-old Arthur James Mhoon Jr. of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was arrested on December 18 after county employees reported seeing him allegedly trying to start a fire near the Texola Cemetery. When the employees approached Mhoon, he allegedly attacked them with a shovel.

The employees managed to disarm Mhoon, who then jumped into his vehicle and fled the scene. Sheriff Manning said a deputy initially pulled Mhoon over, but during the traffic stop, Mhoon allegedly drove off again, initiating a pursuit.

Mhoon was eventually arrested and booked into the Beckham County Jail. He was formally charged on December 20 with the following offenses:

Endangering Others While Eluding/Attempting to Elude a Police Officer

Assault, Battery, or Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon

Assault and/or Battery with a Dangerous Weapon

Third-Degree Arson

Mhoon’s next court date is pending.
