The Penny News 263

A fatal crash occurred on Saturday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m., along Old Route 66 Road, 4/10 mile east of County Road 2590, near Bridgeport in Caddo County.

The accident involved a 1956 Ford Pickup driven by 62-year-old Jimmy L. Wilhoit of Hinton. Wilhoit was transported to Weatherford Hospital, where he succumbed to massive injuries. Medical staff pronounced him deceased upon arrival.

A passenger in the vehicle, 42-year-old Clayton W. Adams of Austin, Texas, was airlifted to OU Medical Center. Adams remains hospitalized in critical condition with severe internal injuries to the head and trunk.

Accident Details

The pickup was traveling eastbound on Old Route 66 when it encountered a rough patch of roadway. This caused the vehicle to go into a broadside slide, veer off the road to the south, and collide with a utility pole and a pipe fence. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle before it overturned, coming to rest on its roof.

Investigation and Contributing Factors

The driver’s condition prior to the crash is currently unknown, and the cause of the collision remains under investigation. The pickup was not equipped with seatbelts. The weather at the time of the crash was clear and dry, and the roadway was a two-lane, undivided asphalt road.

The collision was investigated by Trooper Brent Tucker of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Caddo County detachment, Troop G. He was assisted at the scene by the Caddo County Sheriff’s Department, Hinton Police and Fire Departments, Air Evac, and AMR Ambulance Service.

Further details will be released as the investigation continues.
