Elk City Commissioners Give Unanimous Support for City Manager

The Penny News 239

After a nearly two-and-a-half-hour executive session, the Elk City Commission on Wednesday publicly showed unanimous support for City Manager Tom Ivester.

The executive session was not unexpected at this time of year, as it served as Ivester's annual performance evaluation. However, rumors had started circulating in recent days about the possible dismissal of the City Manager, and the meeting — usually scarcely attended — saw a larger contingent of Elk Citians eager to learn the outcome of the closed-door session.

Once the executive session was over, Mayor Corey Spieker stated that no action would be taken regarding Ivester's position with the city.

During his bi-weekly City Manager's report, Ivester addressed the speculation about his dismissal.

Ivester was appointed interim City Manager in 2020 and was eventually hired full-time after a brief search.
