The Penny News 1763

Weatherford, OK – The Weatherford Environment Group will host a special recycling event Saturday, November 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in recognition of America Recycles Day.

The event will take place at the Weatherford Recycling Center’s Materials Processing and Education Center, located at 602 E. Clark Street, at the corner of Illinois and Clark streets, two blocks south of Main Street.

Residents are encouraged to bring a variety of recyclable materials, including large metal items, appliances, non-working electronics, light bulbs, batteries and phone books. A Shred-It truck will be on site to securely destroy personal documents for a $5 donation.

A drug take-back event, coordinated by SWODA, will also be available. Accepted medications include pills, tablets, capsules, patches and liquids in containers. Nuclear medications, aerosols, auto-injectors and syringes will not be accepted.

Other items accepted during the special event include fluorescent, LED and incandescent light bulbs, lead-acid batteries commonly found in vehicles and equipment, and household batteries of various sizes.

Organizers note that televisions and computer monitors will not be accepted. Residents with working electronic devices are encouraged to donate them to the Et Cetera Shop.

The recycling center features a sheltered drive-through area, allowing participants to enter from the west end of the facility and exit on the east side.

In addition to the special event, the Weatherford Recycling Center maintains year-round drop-off bins for cardboard, aluminum cans, No. 1 and No. 2 plastics, steel and tin cans, newspapers, magazines, office paper and other mixed paper products. Styrofoam is not accepted.

The Weatherford Environment Group is a volunteer organization dedicated to keeping the community clean, green and beautiful. The event is organized by local volunteers with assistance from the City of Weatherford.
