Sayre, OK – A Sayre family of eight is receiving help from the community after losing their home and belongings in an early morning fire Thursday.
Sayre City Manager Ted Lawson said the fire was reported at approximately 5 a.m. at a home near the edge of town. Everyone inside was able to escape safely, and no injuries were reported.
By the time firefighters arrived, Lawson said the double-wide mobile home was fully engulfed.
“There’s nothing left,” Lawson said. “They’ve lost everything.”
Sayre is served by a volunteer fire department, and Lawson said the home was already heavily involved by the time volunteers were able to respond.
The American Red Cross arrived Thursday morning to assist the family with temporary housing following the fire.
Community members are now collecting clothing, shoes and other personal items for the family.
Clothing needs include youth sizes 4T, 6/7 and 14/16, as well as youth extra-small and small. Adult clothing sizes needed include small, medium, large, extra-large and 2XL shirts, along with size 32/34 jeans.
Shoes are needed in youth sizes 11 and 13. Adult shoe sizes needed include 7.5, 8.5 to 9, 9.5, 10 to 10.5 and 10.5.
Lawson said the family could use help with more than clothing as they begin recovering from the loss.
“They’re just needing anything that they can get,” Lawson said. “Clothes, shoes, personal items, stuff like that. Any help we can get to help this family out.”
Donations can be dropped off at 806 Hunter Lane in Sayre.
