Elk City, OK – The American Legion Post 181 of Elk City is recognizing the students who represented Elk City and Merritt at the 2026 Oklahoma Boys State and Oklahoma Girls State leadership programs, while also expressing appreciation to the local businesses and organizations whose support helped make the opportunity possible.

Oklahoma Boys State and Oklahoma Girls State are separate, highly regarded summer leadership programs designed for high school juniors preparing to enter their senior year. The programs provide students with hands-on experiences in government, leadership, citizenship, and public service.

The 2026 Oklahoma Boys State session was held May 24 through May 31 on the campus of Rogers State University in Claremore. Oklahoma Girls State took place May 24 through May 29 at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

Post 181 extended special thanks to Barber-Dyson Ford for providing transportation for Boys State participants to and from Rogers State University. Legion officials noted the dealership has provided transportation support for the program for many years.

Additional supporters recognized by the Legion include Great Plains Bank, First National Bank of Elk City, InterBank of Elk City, Legacy Bank of Elk City, NorthFork Electric Cooperative of Sayre and Elk City, and a local rancher who wished to remain anonymous and donated beef for a raffle fundraiser.
