Severe Thunderstorm Winds Cause Semi Rollover on I-40 in Beckham County

Beckham County, OK – A commercial vehicle driver from Minnesota was injured Tuesday afternoon after strong winds from a severe thunderstorm caused a rollover crash on Interstate 40 in Beckham County. 

According to the collision report provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 4:43 p.m. on April 14 at mile marker 36 eastbound as a severe thunderstorm was moving through the area. Troopers say a commercial motor vehicle was traveling east when a powerful gust of wind tipped the vehicle over.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Abdulahi A. Hussein of Bloomington, Minnesota, sustained a head injury in the crash and was transported for treatment. One passenger was also in the vehicle but was not reported injured.

Authorities noted that seatbelts were not in use by all occupants at the time of the crash.

No fatalities were reported, and next of kin has been notified.
