Explosion at Gas Well in Northern Custer County Leaves One Injured

Custer County, OK — Authorities are investigating an explosion at a gas well in northern Custer County that left one person injured Monday morning.

According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of an explosion at the gas well located west of Thomas. When investigators arrived, they found one individual injured at the scene. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. No update on their condition has been released, and authorities have not identified the individual.

Additional reports indicate the Butler Fire Department was dispatched late Monday morning to the area of US-183 and County Road 880, approximately 13 miles west of Thomas. Early information suggests the injured individual, a male working at the well site, suffered a possible severe injury to his leg.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Authorities have not released further details at this time.
