Students, Faculty Begin Preparations for SWOSU Annual Plant Sale

Weatherford, OK — Students and faculty in the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) have begun preparations for the department’s annual plant sale, with early planting already underway as spring approaches. The sale is scheduled for April 18 in front of the Old Science Building, with additional details to be announced closer to the event.

Students are planting the first seeds of the season, growing a mix of native plants and common garden favorites, including tomatoes, peppers, and other vegetables. The work is led by faculty members Dr. Rickey Cothran, Dr. Mark Garcia, Dr. Marcella Santos, and Dr. Liedson Carneiro, who oversee the project and work closely with students throughout the process.

The annual plant sale is part of hands-on experience in plant propagation and care, giving students experience that spans from seed planting to maintaining healthy seedlings as they grow. In addition to its role in instruction, the sale provides the community with access to locally grown plants produced through the department’s teaching efforts.
