Weatherford, OK — Two Clinton men are facing charges following a series of vehicle break-ins reported early February 14 at a Weatherford apartment complex.
According to probable cause affidavits filed in Custer County District Court, Weatherford police were dispatched around 2:12 a.m. to Campus Evolution Apartments at 601 W. Oklahoma Ave. after a caller reported multiple masked individuals breaking into vehicles. The suspects were described as wearing black clothing with hoods and surgical-style masks, and at least one was reportedly armed. They were seen leaving the area in an older model white Chevrolet Tahoe.
Officers located the vehicle and conducted a felony stop. Four individuals were detained: Logan Minyong Rue, 19, of Clinton, Willie Lee Ford III, 21, of Clinton, and two juveniles identified in court records as a 17 year old and a 13 year old.
Court documents state Rue exited from the driver seat of the SUV. An officer reported seeing the driver switch seats with Rue before the stop was completed. When questioned, Rue allegedly said he switched seats “because I'm the only one with a driver's license.”
Investigators reported finding two loaded firearms hidden behind the second row of seats, including a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson SD40 VE equipped with a light and laser, and a .22 caliber Taurus pistol with a loaded magazine. A separate loaded magazine was also found in the rear compartment. Numerous surgical-style masks were located inside the vehicle.
Police also recovered a Ford key fob that had been reported stolen, along with cherry-colored Jordan shoes taken from a vehicle at the complex. The shoes were returned to the owner at the scene. In a separate incident, officers allegedly found a debit card belonging to a resident in Ford’s possession. The card’s owner told authorities it had been taken from her vehicle and that she wished to press charges.
Witnesses told officers they observed individuals going through cars and removing items. Several residents were reportedly retrieving personal belongings that had been thrown from the suspects’ vehicle as officers arrived. The property manager indicated surveillance video would be provided to investigators.
Rue has been charged with Burglary in the Third Degree, a Class D1 felony punishable by up to five years in prison, Contributing to the Delinquency of Minors, a misdemeanor, and Obstructing an Officer. His bond was set at $10,000. Court records state Rue does not have prior related criminal history.
Ford has been charged with Third Degree Burglary, Possession of a Firearm After Former Felony Conviction, Contributing to the Delinquency of Minors, and Obstructing an Officer. Court records indicate Ford was convicted of a felony offense in Custer County on February 13, one day before the incident, for violating the Oklahoma Computer Crime Statute and received a five year suspended sentence.
Third-degree burglary carries a possible sentence of up to five years in prison. Possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction is punishable by one to 10 years in prison. Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The case remains pending in Custer County District Court. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
