Beckham County, OK — A truck driver was arrested on Interstate 40 in Beckham County after deputies responded to reports of a vehicle traveling just 10 miles per hour in the left lane.
According to Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning, authorities received a call the night before last about a truck driver moving at an extremely slow speed on I-40, creating a dangerous situation for other motorists.
“We had a report the night before last of a truck driver on Interstate 40 who was driving 10 miles an hour in the left lane, which is not a good thing to be doing and was causing a lot of problems out there,” Manning said.
Deputies located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, authorities discovered the driver was in possession of what Manning described as medical grade marijuana, but he did not have a permit, medical certificate, or license authorizing possession. Deputies also found alcohol inside the truck.
“At the end of the stop, they found that he was in possession of what I believe was medical grade marijuana, but he did not have a permit or medical certificate or license for it. He also had alcohol in the truck,” Manning said.
The driver was taken into custody and arrested on charges related to the marijuana and alcohol. No injuries were reported.
“I am assuming that was probably the cause of him driving 10 miles an hour in the left lane. They got that situation safely handled and got him off the interstate,” Manning said.
In a separate incident over the weekend, one person suffered what appeared to be minor injuries in a rollover crash on a Beckham County road.
Manning said deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had rolled several times. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
“I am not sure at this time what the cause was,” Manning said. “I did not see the outcome of the investigation. I think the person was slightly injured, but I do not believe it ended up being anything serious.”
Deputies assisted at the scene until troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol arrived and assumed control of the investigation. Manning said that was the only crash he was aware of over the weekend.
