Elk City, OK – The Elk City Police Department has announced its 2nd Annual Citizens Police Academy, set to begin April 2, 2026.

The 10 week program will meet each Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Elk City Police Department Gun Range. The academy is designed to give community members a closer look at local law enforcement operations, training, and procedures through classroom instruction and hands on demonstrations led by area officers.

According to the department, the mission of the Citizens Police Academy is to provide participants with a better understanding of police work, including training philosophy, patrol procedures, and real world scenarios officers encounter on the job.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no criminal record. A records clearance check will be completed. Participants must also have an affiliation with Elk City, such as living, working, or owning property within the city.

Applications are available at the Elk City Police Department, located at 422 E. 3rd Street. Individuals may also request an application by emailing cookj@elkcity.com

or by scanning the QR code on the official Citizens Police Academy flyer.

Space is limited, and early applications are encouraged. The Elk City Police Department says it looks forward to connecting with residents and providing an inside look at local law enforcement through this community focused program.
