HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS 

It was a busy weekend on the high school hoops hardwood all across Western Oklahoma. Elk City traveled to Bethany to face a pair of ranked teams. The Elkettes trailed early then ripped off a 15-0 second quarter run to lead by 3 late in the first half. Bethany scored the last 6 of the first half to lead 27-24 at the break. The second half belonged to the Lady Bronchos, specifically Sr. Kayten Donley, who scored 19 of her 23 in the second half to allow Bethany to pull away and win 59-42. Kylee Coffey had a career high 14 for Elk City, but it was in their 3rd straight loss. The Big Elks fell behind early and never threatened in a 87-30 loss. Bethany had 5 players in double figures in the win.  

The game of the night on Friday night was in Hammon with 2A #7 Merritt Oilerettes facing the Class B #2 Lady Warriors. Merritt led most of the night, but it was Hammon that had the last gasp chance to win....Henley West’s bucket gave Hammon a 44-43 win over Merritt. The Lady Warriors had lost 5 of the last 6 over the previous 3 years to the Oilerettes. In other girls action on Friday night, Cheyenne-Reydon held off AB 59-48, Canute whipped Sentinel 73-25, FGFS handled Erick 45-27. In boys action on Friday night, AB clipped C-R 41-33, Canute topped Sentinel 56-47, Erick edged FGFS 60-53, Hammon hammered Merritt 51-34.  

Saturday night brough us Class B #1 Lomega vs Class B #2 Hammon in Enid. Hammon trailed early but then held a 51-44 lead with under two minutes left. Lomega stormed back to tie the game at 51 with 24 seconds left. For the second straight night Henley West provided the winning points, this time with a free throw to hold off Lomega 53-51. The Warriors knocked out the Raiders 48-41 in the boys game.  

Erick and Duke played on Saturday as well. The Lady Bearcats whipped the Lady Tigers 43-10. The Tigers were 53-50 winners of the Bearcats in OT. 

COLLEGE HOOPS THIS WEEKEND 

Both in state schools earned league wins this weekend. Oklahoma St topped Utah 81-72 while Oklahoma knocked off #24 Vanderbilt 97-67. That margin tied for the largest win over a ranked team in Sooner history. Things toughen up to start this week for both squads. Oklahoma St’s at #5 Houston tomorrow night at 7. Oklahoma’s at #1 Auburn tomorrow night at 8 

THUNDER DOMINATE SACRAMENTO 

The Ok City Thunder returned home on Saturday night for the first of 4 straight games inside Paycom Center. OKC rolled over Sacramento 144-110. Aaron Wiggins scored 41 and grabbed 14 rebounds in the win. The Thunder are back at it tonight with Milwaukee in town. YOu can hear thunder/Bucks on 98.1 fm and 1240 am. Pregame gets started at 5:30 wiht the tip to come at 7 

DONCIC/DAVIS BLOCKBUSTER TRADE 

It was one of the most shocking moments in sports history late Saturday night when news started to filter out about a blockbuster trade. The Dallas Mavericks sent 25 year old superstar Luka Doncic to the Lakers along with Maxi Kleiber and Markieef Morris for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first round pick. It’s possible at his age and accomplishments to this point in his careeer, Luka Doncic is the best player to be traded in NBA history.
