TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS 

A couple of local high school basketball teams competed in different holiday tournaments over the last weekend. Class 4A #1 Weatherford Eagles took home the 3rd place trophy in the boy’s bracket of the Tournament of Champions up in Tulsa. Wford beat 2A #1 Dale 59-58 in round 1. Lost to eventual champ Owasso 47-34 in the semis. Then rebounded to edge Booker T Washington 61-57 in the 3rd place game. Class B #2 Hammon’s Lady Warriors competed in the girls side of the Tournament of Champions. The Lady Warriors lost to eventual champion Booker T Washington 67-45 in the first round. Fell to 4A #5 Glenpool 67-51 in the second round. Then lost to 6A Edmond Memorial 70-53 in the last game. Seiling competed in the prestigious Bertha Frank Teague classis in Ada. Class A’s #1 beat 3A #3 Anadarko 44-40 in OT in round 1. They fell to eventual champion Dale 53-43 in the semifinals. 2A #4 Latta then beat Seiling 46-39 for the 3rd place trophy. 

THUNDER WIN A PAIR OVER THE WEEKEND 

The Ok City Thunder swept a weekend back-to-back for their 10th and 11th straight wins on Saturday and Sunday nights. OKC whipped up on Charlotte 106-94 on Saturday night in Charlotte. Aaron Wiggins and Ajay Mitchell joined the starting lineup due to some injuries and combined for 27 on 10-18 shooting. Then last night the Thunder exploded on the Memphis Grizzlies with a 130-106 lambasting of the Griz. SGA torched Memphis with 35. Ok City’s bench combined for 61 in the win. The Thunder won their 1th straight for the first time since 2013. OKC sits atop the Western Conf standings at 26-5, 5 games clear of second place Houston. It’s the best record through 31 games in Ok City Thunder history. They get the night off before the annual New Year’s Eve game against Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves tomorrow night. 

COLLEGE BASKETBALL POLLS RELEASED 

This week’s installments of the college basketball polls were released today. The AP and Coaches both have Tennessee, Auburn, Iowa St, and Duke as the top 4. Oklahoma, one of only 4 unbeatens in the country, find themselves at 10 in the coaches poll and 12 in the AP.  The SEC and Big 12 dominate the polls. SEC has 10 in the AP and 9 teams in the coaches. The Big 12 has 5 in the AP and 5 in the coaches. Oklahoma St opens conference play inside Gallagher-Iba arena tonight against #14 Houston. Oklahoma will play their first SEC game at #5 Alabama on Saturday.
