Troopers work busy Saturday on western Oklahoma highways

Elk City, OK – Western Oklahoma highways were busy for state troopers Saturday, with three separate crashes in Washita, Blaine, and Dewey counties sending multiple people to the hospital, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The first wreck happened at about 1:38 a.m. Saturday on State Highway 152 at County Road 2430, about 17 miles east of Cordell in Washita County. Troopers said a westbound vehicle left the roadway to the left, rolled and hit a barbed wire fence.

The driver, 48–year–old Rhett Beutler of Canute, was the only person in the vehicle and was injured, according to the report.

That afternoon, around 3:31 p.m., troopers responded to a two–vehicle crash at the intersection of State Highway 51 and State Highway 58, about one mile northeast of Canton in Blaine County. Investigators said a vehicle driven by 36–year–old Silvia Hurlbut of Enid was traveling west on Highway 51 and failed to yield from a stop sign.

Her vehicle was struck by a northbound vehicle on Highway 58 driven by 28–year–old Kasidee Hooker of Longdale. Both vehicles came to rest in the south lane of Highway 58. Hurlbut was injured. Hooker was not hurt, but one of her two passengers was injured. Troopers said everyone in both vehicles was wearing seat belts.

The third crash was reported about 7:19 p.m. on U.S. Highway 60 at 2150 Road, roughly 14 miles west of Seiling in Dewey County. Troopers said a vehicle driven by 55–year–old Isaias Mendez Diaz of Santa Fe, New Mexico, was headed east on Highway 60 when it went off the right side of the roadway.

The driver overcorrected, causing the trailer he was towing to come loose, according to the report. The vehicle crossed both lanes of U.S. 60 and overturned in the north ditch, coming to rest on the driver’s side. The trailer overturned and came to rest in the eastbound lane. Mendez Diaz was injured. Two passengers in the vehicle were not hurt, and troopers said all occupants were wearing seat belts.

The Highway Patrol noted that all details are based on preliminary reports and could change as investigations continue.
