Putnam, OK — A Lawton woman died Thursday after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 183 north of County Road 760 in Dewey County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Karen T. Woodward, 78, was driving south on Highway 183 about 2:47 p.m. when her vehicle went off the right side of the road. The vehicle continued through the grass for roughly 212 feet south and 14 feet west before striking a culvert about a quarter-mile north of County Road 760.
After hitting the culvert, the vehicle went airborne, rolled more than once, then came down on its front hood and driver-side roof. It rotated again and struck the rear bumper before coming to rest on its wheels, OHP reported.
Woodward was wearing a seat belt. She had no passengers. She died from injuries sustained in the crash. Next of kin have been notified.
The collision occurred in Troop H’s area. The investigation is in its preliminary stages and information is subject to change, authorities said.
