Government Shutdown Forces Cancellation of U.S. Marine Band Concert in Elk City

The Penny News 925

Elk City, OK – The highly anticipated performance by “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, scheduled for Tuesday night at the Pioneer Center on the Elk City High School campus, has been canceled. The reason: the ongoing U.S. federal government shutdown, which began October 1.

In its statement, the Marine Band expressed regret over the cancellation and thanked those who support them. “We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause,” the statement read. The group said it hopes to return to Elk City in the future.

Local sponsors of the event included the Elk City Arts Council and the Kelli O’Hara Center for Performing Arts. The band closed with its signature motto: “Semper Fidelis.”
