More Highway Sweeps Coming to Beckham County

Beckham County, OK – The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety says the I-40 port of entry sweep in Beckham County was only the start. More operations are planned, more often, and they will center on western Oklahoma.

DPS Commissioner Tim Tipton says the goal is simple, protect Oklahomans and choke off organized crime using trucking routes. “We’ll continue these operations,” Tipton said. “We want every Oklahoman safe.”

The first three-day sweep at the Beckham County port of entry led to more than 120 arrests. Teams from DPS, ICE, and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission inspected hundreds of trucks. Of 520 drivers stopped, nearly one in four were not in the country legally. Investigators also flagged suspects tied to assault, money laundering, drug trafficking, and human smuggling. Those arrested were taken into custody for state and federal processing.

Multiple commercial trucks and trailers were impounded, cargo secured for inspection. Officials say this is part of a long-term plan to spot illegal freight and disrupt smuggling along Oklahoma interstates, with Beckham County a key checkpoint.

What’s next, DPS says more roadside inspections, more multi-agency checkpoints, and more targeted sweeps on major shipping routes in western Oklahoma. Tipton says the approach will stay aggressive, with public safety first, no compromise.
