Arapaho, OK – An Arapaho man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges in Custer County after authorities say he assaulted a woman, injured her dog, and damaged property during an incident earlier this month.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed September 24 in Custer County District Court, 19-year-old Antonio Najar Jr. has been charged with domestic assault and battery by strangulation, cruelty to animals, malicious injury to property under $1,000, and domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor.

Prosecutors allege that on September 19, Najar grabbed the victim by the throat with both hands and strangled her. The affidavit states he also punched her in the face three times while children were present.

In addition, investigators say Najar picked up and injured a dog belonging to the victim and damaged a bedroom door inside the residence.

If convicted, Najar faces up to three years in prison and a $3,000 fine on the strangulation charge. The animal cruelty charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. The malicious injury to property count is punishable by up to one year in jail and a $500 fine, while the misdemeanor domestic assault in the presence of a child carries up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine.

Najar’s initial court appearance in Custer County District Court is pending.
