The Penny News 512

Elk City, OK – As of March 18, 2025, several significant wildfires are actively burning across Oklahoma, with the 840 Road Fire, Camargo Fire, and 1980 Road Fire among the most concerning.

840 Road Fire

Spanning Roger Mills and Dewey Counties, the 840 Road Fire has consumed approximately 27,855 acres and is currently 40% contained. Firefighters are working tirelessly to establish control lines and protect nearby communities.

Camargo Fire

Located in Dewey County, the Camargo Fire has burned around 5,725 acres, with containment also at 40%. Efforts are focused on mitigating the fire's spread amid challenging weather conditions.

1980 Road Fire

In Beckham County, the 1980 Road Fire has affected about 2,000 acres and is 65% contained. Fire crews are making progress, but vigilance remains essential to prevent further flare-ups.

Governor Declares State of Emergency

In response to these and other wildfires, Governor Kevin Stitt has declared a State of Emergency for twelve Oklahoma counties, including Roger Mills, Dewey, and Beckham. This declaration facilitates the mobilization of resources to support firefighting efforts and assist affected communities. ?

Fire Weather Conditions

A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 1:00 PM Wednesday for most of Oklahoma. Critical to extreme fire weather conditions, including high winds and low humidity, are expected to persist, posing challenges to containment efforts and increasing the risk of new fire ignitions.

Safety and Preparedness

Residents in affected areas should stay informed through local news outlets and official channels. Heed evacuation orders and avoid fire-affected zones to ensure personal safety and allow emergency responders to perform their duties effectively.?
