Beckham County, OK — Barry Christian, a Republican candidate for Oklahoma Senate District 38, has been found dead after being reported missing earlier this week, according to family members and state investigators.

Christian, 54, of Sayre, was last seen Tuesday and was reported missing after failing to appear for a scheduled meeting. The Beckham County Sheriff’s Office and Harmon County Sheriff’s Office issued a request for public assistance late Wednesday night.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Christian’s truck, described as a 2024 charcoal gray Ram, was located Thursday afternoon south of Erick near Highway 30 at the Sandy Sanders Wildlife Management Area. Investigators said the vehicle had crashed into a ravine.

Authorities confirmed a body was found inside the truck, but due to the location and condition of the crash site, recovery efforts were ongoing and immediate identification was not possible. A campaign sign bearing Christian’s name was found near the scene.

Christian’s family later confirmed Thursday that he had been found deceased.

The circumstances surrounding his death have not been released, and the investigation remains ongoing. Officials described the case as a multi-agency effort.

Christian was a candidate for Oklahoma Senate District 38, which includes several western Oklahoma communities such as Altus, Mangum, Hobart, Elk City, Hollis, Sayre, Frederick, Davidson, Grandfield, and Gotebo. He had recently been campaigning in the area, including an appearance at the Mangum Rattlesnake Derby days before his disappearance.

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the Sayre Police Department at 580-928-2122.
