Elk City, Weatherford Post Strong Gains in February Sales Tax Distribution

Oklahoma City, OK – Sales tax collections distributed on February 9 by the Oklahoma Tax Commission show steady growth across much of western Oklahoma, with Elk City and Weatherford posting notable gains.

The February distribution primarily reflects local tax receipts from December business. The amounts reported this period represent sales from December 16 through December 31 and estimated sales from January 1 through January 15.

Elk City received $1,349,037.29 in the February 2026 distribution, compared to $1,284,308.76 in February 2025. That marks a 5 percent increase year over year.

Weatherford reported one of the strongest increases in the region. The city received $1,146,539.31, up from $1,032,171.71 last year, an 11 percent rise.

Clinton, which combines Custer and Washita county totals, saw a decrease. The city received $467,990.70 compared to $493,988.62 last year, a 5 percent drop.

By comparison, Altus collected $1,173,515.30, up 4 percent from $1,128,993.72 in 2025. Woodward received $1,148,264.91, a 1 percent increase over last year’s $1,135,572.21, and El Reno reported $1,002,503.10, down 9 percent from $1,103,795.06 in February 2025. Among smaller communities in the region Sayre received $130,930.46, down 3 percent from $134,369.80. Cordell posted a 4 percent increase, collecting $88,450.78 compared to $85,231.94 last year and Mangum saw an 11 percent decline, receiving $50,385.76 compared to $56,705.70 in 2025.

Statewide, cities and towns shared in a $211,695,380 sales tax disbursement, reflecting an increase of $8,592,376 over the $203,103,004 distributed in February 2025. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns totaled $56,382,839.

Counties statewide shared in $37,221,145 in sales tax collections and $11,503,931 in use tax disbursements.

The latest figures provide a snapshot of holiday season spending and early January activity across Oklahoma communities.
