High Speed Fiber Internet Goes Live in Burns Flat and Granite

The Penny News 1076

Western Oklahoma – High speed fiber internet is now live for residents and businesses in and around Burns Flat and Granite, marking a major step forward for connectivity in western Oklahoma.

Two broadband expansion projects serving Washita and Greer counties have been completed with funding from the federal State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund and oversight from the Oklahoma Broadband Office. The projects were built by Dobson Fiber and deliver reliable fiber optic service to 366 locations across the two communities.

With fiber now available, homes and businesses in Burns Flat and Granite can access faster speeds, better reliability, and stronger connections to support education, healthcare, business growth, and everyday online needs.

These projects represent a major milestone for broadband expansion in Oklahoma,” said Mike Sanders, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Broadband Office. “As more projects come online, we will continue working to deliver reliable, high speed internet to every corner of the state.”

Oklahoma Broadband Governing Board Chair Jim Meek said completing these early projects shows the state’s broadband strategy is working and that public investment is translating into real connections for rural communities.

Dobson Fiber began construction on its statewide projects following a groundbreaking event in November 2024. Company officials expect the remainder of their projects to be completed by the second quarter of 2026.

In 2022, the Oklahoma Legislature allocated $374 million to the Oklahoma Broadband Office with a goal of ensuring at least 95 percent of Oklahomans have access to high speed internet. The Burns Flat and Granite projects represent early progress toward that goal. All ARPA funded projects must be operational by the end of 2026.

Statewide, 159 broadband projects have been awarded, with more than 75 percent currently under construction or in closeout phases.

Residents in Burns Flat and Granite can check service availability through the Oklahoma Broadband Dashboard.
